Anders Kijkers: The Island I Am
Fonds ZOZ | Director, Strategy & Concept development
For Fonds ZOZ, I developed and directed a series of documentary-style portraits that bring the people behind socially engaged art into focus. Among them is Sharine Rijsenburg, a visual anthropologist who explores colonial image-making and representation through her project The Island I Am.
The idea was to bring Fonds ZOZ's mission to life through the voices of the makers themselves. Rather than relying on polished promotional narratives, I wanted to create space for honest reflections, personal perspectives and the stories that drive their work.
From concept and scripting to creative direction, I developed a storytelling format that looks beyond the finished project to explore the person, questions and experiences behind it.
The result is a series that makes complex social themes feel more personal and accessible, while inviting new audiences to discover the makers, perspectives and ideas that Fonds ZOZ helps bring to life.
